China Hong Kong

The Hong Kong Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD) has launched an energy efficiency labelling Scheme for electrical appliances and equipment.

The Government has introduced the Mandatory Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme (MEELS) through the Energy Efficiency (Labelling of Products) Ordinance.

MEELS are implemented in phases. Currently, MEELS covers eight prescription products:

Refrigeration equipment with rated total storage capacity not exceeding 500L

Compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) rated not exceeding 60W

Dehumidifier with rated dehumidification capacity not exceeding 35L per day

Washing machines with rated washings not exceeding 7kg or 10kg (grace period until Nov 30, 2019)

Indoor air conditioning, including refrigeration and heating performance (Grace period until November 30, 2019)

TV (Grace period until 30 November 2019)

Electric Storage Water Heater (Grace period until 30 November 2019)

Induction cooker (Grace period until 30 November 2019)
