USA (FCC) - Rules on 4.9 GHz Band

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the USA published the rules on Improving Public Safety Communications in the 4.9 GHz Bandon January 18, 2023, to establish a nationwide approach to maintain the controlled, public safety nature in the management of the 4.9 GHz (4940-4990 MHz) frequency band.


The rules allow for a Band Manager to coordinate all operations in the band by public safety and non-public safety use, and will also allow for the integration of commercial technologies such as 5G.


The rules will come into effect from March 30, 2023.
